Silence the Violence and Shun the Guns will make history again when it will become the first anti-youth gangs and gun violence organization to offer above-average, paying, permanent and full-time employment to youth in 2018. Some of these youth will be from at-risk and disadvantaged neighborhoods if they pass the screening process. Imagine if the address you place on your resume excludes you from securing a job as soon as a potential employer reviews it? This is just one of the many roadblocks and detrimental challenges at-risk youth face every day. It is well known that there is a huge shortage of employment for our youth, especially for the summer, when they need it the most.

For 2018, the unemployment rate for youth is 20%. “Social and economic exclusion leads to poverty and poverty leads to avoidable crimes.” Silence the Violence and Shun the Guns plans to do its part to change that fact. The “Inaugural creating youth jobs campaign” of Silence the Violence and Shun the Guns aims to employ a minimum of 100 youth. Taking part in reducing the unemployment rate for our youth is just another way to reduce youth gangs and gun violence. After mastering essential personal and professional life skills to pull themselves out of poverty, “povertyproof” themselves and then pave the way for economic prosperity, these youths’ options in life open up significantly so that they can choose to start their own successful business and hire their own employees or increase their chances in pursuing a great career. These life skills they will learn includes, but are not limited to, respect, integrity, loyalty, planning and balancing life, prioritizing. accountability, sales, marketing, critical thinking, relationship building and preservation, the importance of investing in their community, running a successful business, basics in finance, negotiations, wealth building, wealth management, wealth discipline and how to diplomatically interact with law enforcement.
